D. J. Pratt writes at the intersection of mysticism, love, and human longing. The debut novel, Prima Nocta, is not just a story but a tapestry — weaving together history, science, and spirituality into a sensual exploration of what it means to find (and lose) one’s forever. The second novel in the same universe, Dominique’s Journey, follows one man’s journey of discovery and transformation across the 16th-century world, from France to a Tantric ashram high in the Himalayas.
Pratt draws inspiration from a lifetime of eclectic experience: from studying history, technology and speculative science to listening deeply to people’s stories, especially in times of crisis. This lived empathy infuses every page, giving the work its lyrical intensity and emotional truth.
When not writing, Pratt can be found hiking, woodworking, in Yoga practice or dancing — because movement, like story, is another way to connect body and soul.

As you know, AI is trying to emulate storytelling… but what it writes is flat, derivative and unoriginal. The art it creates is also derivative: essentially stealing elements of human creators’ art and adapting or reshaping it. AI lacks the love and spirit that is expressed by the human heart. My books are written by me: with the actual hands I was born with and at a simple keyboard. The talented artist who does my art is a lovely soul and extraordinary creator — and pure flesh and blood. And the articles on this website were all written by actual people.
Admittedly, however I did use a tad bit of AI in this website: “The Deep Dive” podcasts were done by an AI engine that I played with out of curiosity — they’re not completely correct (what podcast is?), but I hope that posting them might help you understand what the book is about, while not directly impinging on the human’s inalienable right to create art. Also, I believe the video producer who did the Dominique’s Journey teaser video generated elements with AI but she was still in creative control through vision, prompts and editing.
